Breathing influence from Marvin Gaye to Mura Masa, Ruben Young is an emerging modern R&B artist and budding songwriter from Canada. With a classic charm, distinct raspy timbre and a Soulection-esq bounce, Ruben has become best known for his debut EP, Dreamstate which features the single "Rachel Green", an ode to 90's dreamgirl played by Jennifer Aniston on 'FRIENDS', which featured American rapper Hodgy Beats from Odd Future.
Recently named Apple Music Canada's New Artist of the Week, Ruben's independent releases (through his own label, Young & Lucky) have earned him over five million streams, and a place on stage as direct support for international artists such as touring with pop-star Kiesza in 2019, Akon, The Chainsmokers, Jarreau Vandal, Nelly, Phony Ppl, Classified, Langston Francis and Jocelyn Alice.
From features on Beats 1 Radio, BBC Radio 1 Extra, CBC, to playlist love on Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, Youtube Music, to steady rotation on Stingray and Canadian radio, and recently performing at premier showcases such as Live Nation's Ones To Watch, School Night (Toronto) and NXNE, Ruben's sound continues to grow - establishing him as one of the top rising soul artists out of Canada.
From classic soul to post-Frank Ocean R&B— Dreamstate was woven through an impressive self curated writing trip across North America which lead him to create over 150 songs in collaboration with some of the industry's best (T-Minus, Chin Injeti, Erik Alcock, Slakah The Beat Child, Kuya Productions and more). Bound together with strong melodies, contagious hooks, and soulful crooning; the project is "music for the hopeless romantics to bounce to". It all adds up to the story of Young’s relentless pursuit of his dreams in love and music.
In 2018, Ruben was nominated for Urban Artist of The Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards for his single, “Bad Habits” (produced by JUNO winner Classifed), which was also named one of the “Best Canadian Songs” by Complex’s Northern Touch List.
