Ruben Young is an emerging, independent Electro-R&B-Pop singer/songwriter from Calgary, Canada drawing influence from Amy Winehouse to Disclosure.
In 2017 Ruben released his first three singles, generated over two million streams, was direct support for international artists such as The Chainsmokers and Akon, and experienced cross-platform charting success including Spotify Viral, iTunes’ Pop, R&B and Electronic categories.
His new single, "Bad Habits" (Aug 2017), produced by multi-platinum, JUNO award winning artist/producer Classified, was named "one of the best Canadian songs” of September by Complex Magazine, and has amassed nearly 500,000 streams on Spotify - thriving abroad in American, UK and Australian markets.
Since releasing his debut single “Take Her Down” (Nov 2016), the breakout Calgary native has weaved his way through international playlists, channels and influencers. The single was featured by international icon Gary Vaynerchuk’s Daily Vee 183, earned over 1 million plays on YouTube channel, xKito and reached #8 on the Hype Machine after debuting at #28 on the iTunes Canada Pop Chart. “Take Her Down” lead Ruben to two nominations for Male Artist of The Year, and Pop Recording of The Year at the YYC Music Awards (Calgary). His sophomore single, “Running For You” (June 2017) reached #15 on the Spotify Canada Viral 50 chart, as well as a debut at #4 on iTunes Canada’s Electronic Chart.
Ruben’s distinct timbre has also become notorious within the international underground producer community, as “Take Her Down” and “Bad Habits” have each been remixed over 300 times through remix competitions in collaboration with producer network, SKIO Music.
As a business grad (BComm Finance, The University of Calgary), Ruben has been known for his hustle and unique entrepreneurial approach. In 2014, he aimed to build local buzz through his ‘50 Days of Summer’ campaign - 50 consecutive days of pop up performances around his hometown. Far surpassing his expectations, the experiment yielded national media attention, a $10,000 endorsement from local radio, and free beer for the summer #win. Riding the momentum into 2015, Ruben’s 50 day vision grew beyond his own brand; leading him to create and direct the 50 Days YYC Music Festival. The bold endeavor showcased different local artists and unique local venue every day; creating memorable local music experiences across Calgary. After putting 58 artists in front of over 20,000 local music fans, Ruben was acknowledged as one of 150 of Canada’s ‘top young innovators for the arts’ by The 2015 Business For the Arts Young Professionals Summit.
